Poetry for my soul

Men and Women

We may love each other
We may be partners
However we seek out
Much of what we are not
And for those that are both
Ambidextrous at heart
All alone and together
From the start

Never really knowing
Which side is
the right side of the bed
Then we part

Selfish Love
By, C. Heidi Drew
March 26, 2013

You took my identity before I gave it up
I felt betrayed by women kind
My children under my wing, my loves
Their father for yours, living on rewind

He needed a mother; I was for mine
They needed a father; he was a child
Mine found the fathers they needed
I played both roles for awhile

He wasn't ready, that's apparent but
Neither was I though I had my instincts
She couldn't go it alone, I suppose
Selfish love must have been their links

Children grown up with children of their own
I finally found a willing grandfather
We survive the stories we create, unknown
And no longer does it feel as if life is a bother

We play roles in each others' lives, selfishly
At some point the role fits in the quagmire
Intent shows itself and choices are clearer
Love drives a life to a place that is higher
